What are the Pillars of Islam?
The basis of Islam
The five pillars of Islam are the acts of sacrifice, that is, the apparent acts that a slave performs in obedience to Allah, may he be exalted, and they are obligatory and those who deny them he has come out of Islam, and the pillars of Islam as reported by the Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) are: two testimonies (Shahada), the establishment of prayer, giving Zakat, fasting Ramadan and Hajj.
This is as stated in the Saheeh Hadeeth (Islam was built on five principles: the testimony that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, the establishment of prayer, the provision of Zakat, fasting Ramadan and Hajj for those who have the ability to perform Hajj).
The First Pillar: The Testimony (Shahada)
The meaning of the two testimonies is: "a Muslim should bear witness to Islam with two testimonies, saying with his tongue, sure of his heart: (I testify that there is no God but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah), as for the meaning of saying: (there is no God but Allah), that is, there is no idol who truly worships in existence except Allah-blessed and exalted - alone, and that he has no partner, but he is one with his divinity, godliness, names and attributes, the meaning of the two certificates is that a Muslim testifies that he does not have a partner, but he is one with his divinity, godliness, names and attributes, the meaning of he is truly worshiped only Allah, and to testify that Muhammad is the servant of Allah, His messenger, the last of prophets and messengers.
The two testimonies are the basis of Islam and the basis for the pillars that follow it, and if the slave submits to the rest of the pillars of Islam and other acts of worship without the two certificates, then his deeds are returned to him, and he is therefore not considered a Muslim.
The Second Pillar: The Establishment of Prayer (Sala)
It is the pillar of religion, and the first thing that the Muslim slave is held accountable for on the Hereafter is prayer, if all other work and worship are reconciled, prayer is the link between the slave and his Lord, and the pillar of establishing prayer means that a person firmly believes that Allah has enjoined and imposed on every adult Muslim sane people who are able to mandate five obligatory prayers a day and night.
a Muslim must perform the five obligatory prayers according to their time, form and manner, and be on purity, and the obligatory prayers are the Fajr prayer, Dhuhr prayer, the Asr prayer, the Maghrib prayer, and the Isha prayer, and the establishment of prayer represents an imposition of sincerity and correctness of turning to Allah-blessed and exalted- He alone has no partner in all matters, with the sincerity of trusting in him, and the sincerity of resorting to him.
The Third Pillar: Giving Zakat
Zakat is the third of the five pillars of Islam, and it is a right and a duty to give money in special circumstances at a specific time،
Zakat is the amount that must be paid out of the money of Muslims to those who deserve it, and that is in the money that has reached the legal quorum, the amount of which is specified in Islamic law in a precise system and under certain conditions.
The Fourth Pillar: Fasting Ramadan
Fasting Ramadan is the Fourth of the five pillars of Islam, and it is meant to fast the month of Ramadan every year, and it does not include the fasting of nawafil, and fasting is defined as holding off all food and water etc... from Fajr to sunset; with the intention of drawing closer to Allah and obeying him, and abiding by his command-Almighty.
A slave is not considered a realizer of the reality of fasting unless he leaves all the sensory and moral invalidations of fasting; the sensory invalidations of fasting are eating and drinking, the moral invalidations of fasting are the actions and things that invalidate the fasting person's reward from sins, so he stops doing sins, sins and evil deeds, so he moves away from strife, and since fasting is a pillar of Islam, it is imposed on every Muslim and Muslim woman on condition of eligibility for Tasleem.
The Fifth Pillar: Hajj
The last pillar of Islam is the hajj, which Allah-may be exalted-imposed on Muslims once in a person's life, provided that the health and financial ability, and that the road to Hajj is safe so that if he leaves his country and travels for Hajj, he will secure the road and its damage, if he does not secure the road, and most likely perish if he leaves his country, he does not have to make Hajj because of the insecurity of the road.
A topic will be written about each Pillar and explain all its details so that the reader will not find any difficulty in understanding the pillars of Islam.
